Here are some of the happenings from Wrestle War '92 to this point:
- Larry Zbyszko's falling out with the Dangerous Alliance came to a head when he cost the Alliance yet another match on WCW Saturday Night. Before a match with Steve Austin, in which Paul E. Dangerously instructed Zbyszko to prove himself to the Alliance, Zbyszko slapped Paul E. and almost had Austin beat before Bobby Eaton interfered and cost Zbyszko the match. It was at this point that Larry publicly stated that he quit the Alliance.
- Nikita Koloff was being recruited by the Dangerous Alliance and stated that he received a big offer, but he publicly turned it down
- Steve Austin regained the WCW Television title from Barry Windham in a match aired on the 6/13/92 edition of WCW World Wide
- On the 6/13 edition of WCW Saturday Night, Bill Watts was officially introduced as the new WCW Executive Vice President, and Ole Anderson returned as senior referee. Watts would also declare that moves off the top rope were banned.
- A tournament to decide new NWA World Tag Team Champions would begin the following week at Clash of the Champions XIX.
LIVE! from the Mobile Civic Center in Mobile, AL which may seem odd to those who don't pay attention to American geography, but Mobile is on the Gulf Coast. So THERE! Welcoming us to the show are Tony Schiavone and Eric Bischoff, who is wearing a Hawaiian shirt. You know the only people to wear Hawaiian shirts are big fat party animals and gay guys, and Eric doesn't look like a big fat party animal. They bring in the new WCW Executive Vice President Bill Watts who looks like he's wearing a fanny pack and Zubaz, the executive wear of VP's everywhere. Watts is excited to watch these guys hook 'em up, just as long as they don't come off the top rope.
Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura are your commentary team. Ventura is on the beach set with some bikini-clad young ladies getting rubbed down. He finally decides that he may as well join Ross at the commentary table, and they throw it to the first match.
Match #1: Brian Pillman (c) vs. Scotty Flamingo - WCW Light Heavyweight Championship.
It still astonishes me that this Flamingo goof would go on to become the very opposite Raven. Flamingo sweeps the leg and celebrates to start. They take turns countering a waistlock, until Pillman gets a hammerlock. Pillman gets a drop toe hold and knees the arm. He rolls it over into a pin attempt for a couple of 2 counts. Flamingo breaks the hammerlock by getting to the ropes. Flamingo with a couple of rights, but Pillman gets a crucifix for a 2 count. Pillman gets another hammerlock but Flamingo backs him to the corner and gives him a back elbow. Pillman comes right back with a scissors hold on the arm. Flamingo reverses into a pin attempt while grabbing the rights but Pillman rolls it back and then swtiches to an armbar. Off the ropes, Pillman with a shoulderblock and then a hiptoss. Pillman gets a wristlock and wrenches the arm and takes it to the mat. Flamingo tries to fight out while using the ropes but Pillman doesn't let go and takes him back down to the mat. Flamingo backs Pillman to the corner for the break. Flamingo whips Pillman off the ropes and tries for a backbreaker but Pillman reverses to a headscissors and Flamingo goes to the floor. Pillman comes off the apron with a double axhandle. Flamingo back in the ring, Pillman decides to go to the top, which Ross points out is illegal, but Flamingo catches him and tosses him to the mat. Flamingo gets a 2 count off that. Pillman is dumped to the floor and Flamingo follows out with a flying crossbody. We have no mats on the floor at this point, it should be noted. Back in the ring, Pillman attempts a comeback but Flamingo stays in control with a fistdrop from the middle rope. Flamingo covers and gets 2. With Pillman on the apron, Flamingo comes off the ropes but Pillman slingshots in with a clothesline for a 2 count. Flamingo comes back with an eyerake and then goes to the reverse chinlock, with some assistance from the ropes. Pillman elbows out but comes off the ropes into a Flamingo knee. Flamingo charges the corner but Pillman moves and Flamingo hits the corner. Flamingo comes right back with another chinlock, however. Whip is reversed by Pillman and he gets a sleeper. Flamingo drops Pillman headfirst into the top turnbuckle to break that up but then both guys go down to simultaneous right hands. They duke it out on their knees but Flamingo wins that battle. Flamingo comes off the middle rope right into a dropkick from Pillman. Pillman with a spinning heel kick off the ropes. In the corner, Pillman gets the count along punches. Whip to the opposite corner is reversed and Flamingo gets a nice powerslam when Pillman charges out. Pillman has trouble finding his legs, causing Flamingo to celebrate in the corner, where Pillman gets a back suplex off the second rope for a 2 count. Whip to the corner and Pillman clotheslines him from behind. Flamingo is dumped to the ramp outside and Pillman attempts a dive that misses and he splats on the ramp. Back in the ring, Flamingo comes off the middle rope with a knee to the back of the head. Cover...1...2...3! (17:29) ***1/2
WINNER: And NEW WCW Light Heavyweight Champion, Scotty Flamingo! Solid opener to this show. Pillman was probably at his peak as a singles wrestler here and had quite the roll in the first half of 1992. Flamingo held his own in the ring, but was prone to rest spots which slowed the match down a little. Flamingo would not have the title for very long, as he would lose it to Brad Armstrong at The Omni on 7/5/92.
Meanwhile, Ventura takes umbrage over the fact that Johnny B. Badd is judging the bikini contest between Missy Hyatt and Madusa, implying that Badd is gay and therefore no authority on scantily-clad women.
On cue, here comes Badd and Ventura questions whether Badd even likes girls. Badd gets on the mic and explains that there are three rounds: evening gowns, swimsuits and then bikinis. He states that the folks at home can vote by calling the 1-900 number on the screen, which is no longer active. That's a good thing, because we might find Missy Hyatt actually manning the line to this day, giving you the inside scoop on who has the biggest/smallest dick in wrestling. What sort of fucking weirdo wants to know that anyway? Anyway Missy comes out first in her gown, which is quite conservative. Madusa comes out in something that looks like a wedding dress complete with veil. Give this round to Missy because at least her gown didn't imply a lifelong commitment.
Match #2: Ron Simmons vs. The Taylor Made Man.
Simmons was given the key to the city of Tallahassee earlier today. Ventura wants to know if that key will open the bank. Simmons shoves Taylor to the mat on a lock up. In the corner, Taylor tries a hip toss but Simmons blocks and reverses to one of his own. To the opposite corner, and Taylor gets a knee to the gut. Simmons comes back with football tackles and they head outside to the ramp where Simmons presses Taylor over his head and back into the ring. Simmons then clotheslines Taylor over the top to the floor. Back in the ring, Simmons gets a body slam then clubs the back. Whip to the corner and Simmons grabs a bearhug. Taylor eventually breaks it with a thumb to the eye. Off the ropes, Simmons reverses a hiptoss, but splats on the ramp on a charge. Taylor follows him out and puts him back in the ring. Taylor gets a jawbreaker then a necksnap for a 2 count. Taylor goes to the chinlock to slow down this heated affair. Taylor then gets a backbreaker for a 2 count. Whip is reversed and Simmons gets a big sidewalk slam but can't make the cover. Simmons chokes Taylor then puts him down with a right hand. Back bodydrop off the ropes. Taylor runs the ropes but Simmons catches him with a powerslam. Hooks the leg...1...2....3! (7:10) **
WINNER: Ron Simmons. Technically, there was nothing wrong with this match, it just wasn't very exciting. Simmons overpowered Taylor at every turn and Taylor really didn't have much offense to give, therefore it never really got off the ground. After the match, Jim Ross talks to Simmons at ringside who says that he has never looked better. Simmons says that he is living proof that you can beat the odds if you work hard.
Match #3: Marcus Alexander Bagwell vs. Greg Valentine.
Side headlock for Bagwell to start. He is shoved off the ropes by Valentine, with Bagwell going up and over and getting a couple of body slams. A few smattering of boos for Bagwell there. Valentine elbows the back of the head and tires for the piledriver but Bagwell backdrops out of it. Bagwell gets an atomic drop and then a couple of dropkicks, leading to Valentine bailing to the floor. Back in the ring, Valentine reverses a whip then blocks a hiptoss attempt and gets a big clothesline. Some stiff chops from the Hammer, then an elbow to the back of the head. Backbreaker for Valentine who then goes to the middle rope and misses and elbowdrop. Bagwell gets a body slam and then misses a knee drop coming off the ropes. Valentine goes to work on the legs as the crowd is clearly behind him. Bagwell counters the figure four attempt to a small package for a 2 count. Bagwell goes up and over on a slam attempt and rolls Valentine up for 2. A backslide for Bagwell gets another 2 count. Bagwell gets a suplex for a 2 count. Back bodydrop for Bagwell gets a 1 count. Bagwell leapfrogs and comes hurts his knee. Of course, Valentine does the veteran move and slaps on the figure four leglock and the crowd wants Bagwell to submit, which he finally does. (7:17) **1/2
WINNER: Greg Valentine. Decent match here with the young Bagwell showing some fire against the seasoned pro. The Alabama crowd hated Bagwell which made for an entertaining dynamic. Valentine's skills were deteriorating here, but he was always a solid hand in the ring.
Before the next match, Ross recalls Cactus Jack at Clash XVIII in a Falls Count Anywhere match against Van Hammer which he won after a shovel shot from Abdullah the Butcher. Not solid video evidence there, WCW.
Match #4: Sting vs. Cactus Jack - Falls Count Anywhere Match.
Sting is the WCW World Heavyweight Champion here but this match is non-title. Sting won the title in February but has yet to defend it on PPV at this point. They start on the ramp by wailing on each other. Sting gets a backslide on the ramp for a 1 count. Sting whips Cactus off the ropes into a back bodydrop on the ramp, then follows with a bulldog. That gets another 1 count. Sting goes for a Stinger splash but hits the corner and falls to the floor. Cactus follows up with his elbow drop from the apron to the floor. Cover...1...2...kick out! Jack gets a neckbreaker on the floor. Cover...1...2...kick out! Ventura questions why the title is not on the line here. Cactus comes off the apron with a sunset flip that gets a 2 count. Sting takes Jack's head to the railing a few times. Jack responds by whipping Sting to the railing then charging. Sting backdrops him over the railing and into the crowd. Suplex on the floor! Cover..1...2...kick out! Sting vaults Cactus over the railing back to ringside. In the ring, Cactus clotheslines Sting down, then follows with a diving headbutt. Whip to the corner and Cactus follows in with a knee to the gut. Cactus then takes it to the mat with a bodyscissors. Sting gets fired up as the crowd tries to get him back into it. Cactus clotheslines them both over the top and to the floor. Cactus whips Sting to the railing but Sting hits him with some kicks and a clothesline. Cactus grabs a chair and gets Sting in the ribs and then a shot to the back. Another chairshot to the ribs. Sting comes back with a back suplex on the concrete floor. Cover...1...2..kick out! They trade pin attempts on the floor. Sting goes for a Stinger splash on the railing but Jack catches him and drops him rubs first on the railing. Piledriver attempt for Cactus but it's a little sloppy and he doesn't hit it well. Jack climbs to the middle rope but jumps off into a right hand from Sting. Sting takes him back to the ramp and slams him Sting grabs a chair and takes it to Jack's back repeatedly then a shot to the knees. he goes for the Scorpion Deathlock but Jack rolls them off the ramp. Back up on the ramp and Cactus gets the double arm DDT! Cover...1...2...shoulder up! Sting gets a running clothesline to put Cactus down, then he climbs to the top and comes off with a flying clothesline! Cover....1...2...3! (11:24) ****1/2
WINNER: Sting. Great match where my only complaint would be that it wasn't long enough. It left me wanting to see more. Cactus Jack did most of the work here, leading Sting into his style of match. Sting matched him in the bump department. It was a good combination of brawling and wrestling that delivered what was promised. If they keep it up as it was for five more minutes, this is an easy *****. Cactus put himself on the map with this match and this is probably Sting's best non-WarGames match.
Match #5: Ricky Steamboat (w/ wife and kid) vs. Rick Rude - 30-Minute Iron Man Challenge.
Yet another non-title match and I'm left wondering what the hell Watts was thinking by not putting titles on the line in these big matches. Paul E. Dangerously and Madusa are barred from ringside. Steamboat comes out with the family, which is admirable yet nauseating at the same time. The Attitude Era crowds would have hated Steamboat and cheered the hell out of Rude. They start before Steamboat can even get the robe off. Steamboat vaults Rude several feet in the air and drops him to the mat. Steamboat kicks the ribs repeatedly, then blocks a hiptoss and counters with a punch to the ribs. Steamboat goes to a bearhug as he has picked his body part. Into the corner, Steamboat shoulders the ribs but Rude gets a knee to the head to stop that. Steamboat gets a firemans carry takedown and then sticks a knee to the ribs in a submission attempt. Rude shoves off but Steamboat gets a Boston crab. Steamboat elevates the legs on the crab attempt as Rude tries to make the ropes, which he does. Steamboat comes off the ropes with a splash to the back to further take it to Rude's ribs. Steamboat continues to kick the ribs, then gets a suplex bu drops him face first instead. Steamboat's psychology here with the ribs is very strong. Whip to the corner but Steamboat hits knee. Rude rolls Steamboat up with a hand full of tights. 1..2...3! (7:33) (Rude 1 - Steamboat 0)
Rude stays on Steamboat after the fall with elbows. He tries for the Rude Awakening and hits it! Cover...1...2...3! (8:40) (Rude 2 - Steamboat 0).
Rude hits a backbreaker and climbs to the top. He comes off with a knee drop! That's a disqualification per Bill Watts' executive orders! (9:46) (Rude 2 - Steamboat 1). Smart move by Rude, as he had a lead and sacrificed a decision in order to inflict more punishment.
Rude picks Steamboat off the mat and quickly gets an inside cradle. 1...2...3! (10:12) (Rude 3 - Steamboat 1). The falls are coming pretty quickly here, putting the babyface Steamboat behind a third of the way through the match.
Steamboat comes back with thrusts and chops, but he puts his head down on a whip and Rude slams it to the mat. Rude slaps on a camel clutch in the middle of the ring. Steamboat inches toward the ropes, but Rude comes down on his back to stop that. His bump and grind taunt doesn't work for him as he hurts his rubs doing it. Rude goes back to the camel clutch as the crowd gets behind Steamboat. Steamboat comes back with an electric chair drop! He comes off the ropes for a splash but hits knees. Rude gets a swinging neckbreaker. Cover...1...2...shoulder up! Steamboat keeps kicking out of various pin attempts then comes back with chops. Rude takes control with a reverse chinlock on the mat. Steamboat elbows out, but Rude catches him with a knee coming off the ropes. Rude takes his head to the turnbuckle a few times then hits a beautiful piledriver! Fuck.....yes! Cover...1...2...shoulder up! Rude goes for a tombstone piledriver but Steamboat reverses it and hits it! Cover...1....2...3! (17:39) (Rude 3 - Steamboat 2).
Rude grabs the tights and pulls Steamboat facefirst into the corner. Rude climbs to the top but Steamboat catches him and crotches him. Steamboat climbs to the middle rope and gets the superplex! Slow cover...1....2...kick out! Both guys clothesline each other down at the 20:00 mark. Rude lays on top of Steamboat with his back for a cover attempt, but Steamboat bridges out and reverses to a backslide. 1...2....3! (20:13) (Steamboat 3 - Rude 3).
Steamboat goes for various pin attempts but Rude keeps kicking out. Awesome segment there, but Rude stops that with a jawbreaker. Rude slams Steamboat's face into the mat a few times, then goes for the cover..1...2..kick out! Rude gets a body slam then drops a forearm to the chest. Cover...1...2...shoulder up! Some big chops from Steamboats but Rude rakes the eyes to take control again. Rude chokes Steamboat using the ropes, then lays in some heavy forearms. Rude tries for the Rude Awakening but Steamboat powers out, ducks a clothesline and then hits his own Rude Awakening! Holy shit! Cover...1...2...foot on the rope! Steamboat lays in some knees to the chest then gets a suplex. Cover...1..2...kick out! Back suplex for Steamboat. Cover..1...2..shoulder up! Whip is reversed and Rude gets a sleeper. Steamboat drops him head first into the turnbuckle but Rude hangs on! With three minutes left Steamboat is still locked in the sleeper. He tries to make the ropes, but Rude keeps kicking the arm away, This is some great work here from both guys. Steamboat finally goes down to the mat. With one minute left, the ref checks the arm but Steamboat is still alive. He pushes off the corner and falls on top for the pin...1...2...3! (29:26) (Steamboat 4 - Rude 3).
Rude immediately gets up and keeps clotheslining Steamboat down and covering with Steamboat kicking out. Inside cradle fails, and finally the 30:00 time limit expires to end the match! (30:00) ****1/2
WINNER: Ricky Steamboat, 4-3. Awesome match. The sleeper spot at the end went a little too long, keeping this from ***** territory. The psychology with each guy trying for desperation pin attempts worked for me. The piledriver reversal was also a cool spot. Terrific story told here.
Time for the swimsuit round of the Missy-Madusa contest. Johnny B. GLAAD is out on the mic and calls out Madusa. She comes out to a decent reaction and looks like she hates every bit of this. Missy's turn and I'm not sure what the difference is between a bikini and a swimsuit at this point. 2016 Missy Hyatt should call the 900 number to talk to 1992 Missy Hyatt in an attempt to change her timeline.
Ole Anderson comes out to ref the next match.
Match #6: Barry Windham/Nikita Koloff/Dustin Rhodes vs. The Dangerous Alliance (Bobby Eaton/Arn Anderson/Steve Austin) (w/ Paul E. Dangerously).
Windham and Austin start it off. Windham gets an armdrag into an armlock. Firemans carry take down for Windham but Austin comes back. Windham gets a Japanese armdrag off the middle rope. Rhodes tagged in and he gets a dropkick with Austin coming off the ropes. Armbar takedown foe Rhodes but he's in the heel corner and Eaton tags in. Rhodes with a shoulderblock off the ropes but runs into a knee/ Eaton rolls him up for a pin attempt but Rhodes kicks out. Anderson tags in and jaws at Koloff, bringing him in. Anderson takes him down and drops a knee. He climbs to the top but is told to come down by the ref, because it's illegal now, see? Koloff clotheslines Anderson to the floor. Paul E. wants the over the top DQ called but Ole denies him. Eaton is in against Koloff and gets a right hand. Koloff gets a bearhug but that's broken up by Anderson's knee to his back. Koloff cleans house on the heels by himself. When they gather themselves, Anderson is the one in the ring. Windham tags in and slams Anderson, who comes back with a headbutt to the gut and a right hand. Windham catches the foot on a corner charge, but both guys end up cracking heads out of the corner. Arn climbs to the top but Windham catches him. Arn thumbs the eye then comes off the middle rope with a forearm. Windham gets the sleeper but Arn back suplexes out of it. Rhodes in and he catches Arn with a flying lariat but gets caught in the heel corner where they take over. Austin in and chokes Rhodes on the ropes. Arn back in and he stomps Dustin's head then knees the back. The plug the hotline number and he Network blocks it but Ross provides it verbally. Meanwhile, Eaton is in and he clotheslines Rhodes down and gets a 2 count. Eaton hooks in the armbar while pushing the forearm into Dustin's head. Austin back in and he and Rhodes slug way on each other. Rhodes misses a clothesline but Austin hits his and Dustin does the 360 sell job. Arn tagged in and Rhodes tries to come back with elbows but his tag attempt is cut off by Eaton who takes him down with a driving armbar. Dustin elbows out but misses a dive and splats on the mat. Austin tagged in but Rhodes rolls him up for a 2 count. Back in the heel corner where Arn is tagged in and he slaps on the armbar. Dustin manages to ram Arn's head into Eaton's, but Austin comes in to prevent the tag. He hits Dustin with the stun gun, but Rhodes manages to tag out to Koloff. All six guys are in the ring now as it's broken down. It's MANIACAL IN MOBILE! Arn climbs to the top and hits Dustin with a clubbing blow. Ole calls for the bell because that's a stupid disqualification! (15:32) **1/2
WINNERS: Via disqualification, Barry Windham/Nikita Koloff/Dustin Rhodes. What a lame finish to a disappointing match. There was no flow to this one and it felt disjointed. The crowd was dead for the heat segment on Rhodes. More was expected from this match and we didn't get it. After the match, Austin gets his licks in on Windham before bailing. They will have a rematch for the TV title on WCW television the following weekend.
Bischoff has Steamboat out to talk about the Iron Man match. Steamboat thanks the fans and he calls this the most difficult match of his career. He promises Rude he is coming for the US title. This brings out Paul E. who claims that there will be no more title matches for him. Then Cactus Jack comes out of nowhere to attack Steamboat and they have a pull apart brawl. I can't seem to remember this going anywhere.
Jesse Ventura is back at the beach set and taking over the bikini round of the contest. Johnny B. GLAAD joins him and Jesse asks him the burning question: "Do you like girls?". Johnny tells him to hush and calls him jealous. Here comes Madusa in her outfit while Missy claims her outfit was stolen from an envelope she was keeping it in. Johnny takes a peek at what she put together and she comes out wearing Jesse's scarves. Johnny claims that Missy is the winner. Madusa doesn't take this lightly and pushes Johnny back into her tent. He comes out brandishing Madusa's top and Jesse goes inside and pops back out to proclaim Madusa the first lady of WCW. Meanwhile, I'm 30% dumber for even recapping this thing.
Match #7: The Steiner Brothers (c) vs. Terry Gordy & Steve Williams - WCW World Tag Team Championship.
Only Bill Watts would think this is a PPV main event. Scott and Gordy start us off. Gordy takes Scott down with a waistlock but Scott reverses into some chain wrestling until they break in the ropes. Scott takes Gordy down by the leg and rides him to the mat with a half-nelson. They go amateur style on the mat until Gordy makes the ropes. Gordy shoves Scott off on a lock up. Scott and Gordy shoulderblock each other to a stalemate and they slap the shit out of each other. Always nice to see, of course. Gordy tags out to Doc and he and Scott take it to the mat as they seem to be legit trying to shoot amateur-style on each other. In the corner, Doc gets a knee to the gut and then whips him to the opposite corner. A charge hits boot but Doc elbows Scott in the head. In the opposite corner, Scott gets a pin attempt for a 2 count. Side headlock on the mat for Scott and he tags in Rick. Ross reminisces about their days in the Varsity Club together. Rick gets a belly-to-belly suplex and Doc bails to the floor. Back in the ring, Doc gets a body slam and a couple of football tackles. Doc goes for a third one but Rick comes out of the corner with a clothesline to put him down. Gordy tagged in and he misses an elbow charge in the corner. Gordy gets a back suplex and a 2 count. Rick gets his own suplex and Doc tags back in. He dumps Rick to the floor and then hits him with a shoulderblock on his way back in. Rick gets a sunset flip but Doc holds on to the ropes. Scott kicks him off and Rick gets a 2 count. Gordy tagged back in and he gets a half-crab then turns it into a grapevine. Rick gets the leverage and turns it into a couple of pin attempts. Gordy grabs a spinning toehold but Rick kicks him off. Overhead belly to belly for Rick. Scott tags in and gets a suplex, then both guys try to tie each other up. Doc tags in and lays in some kicks to Scott. Scott blocks a shot to the turnbuckle but Gordy distracts him long enough for Doc to take over. Gordy tagged in but Scott gets a crossbody coming off the ropes for 2. Scott ends up in the heel corner and they work him over. Gordy gets a leglock of some sort and wrenches on the ankle. Gordy lets him go and unleashes a big clothesline. That gets a 2 count and Gordy tags in Doc, he slaps on an ankle lock. Scott kicks out but Doc comes back with a sledge to the back. Whip to the corner but Doc misses a charge, but he doesn't miss a kick to the knee to put Scott down. The heels double team Scott and that gets a 2 count for Gordy. Suplex gets 2 and Gordy tags in Doc. Doc gets a half crab and sits back on it. Doc slams the knee into the mat and tags in Gordy he goes right back to work on Scott's leg. Doc is tagged back in and he goes for the full Boston crab. Scott tries to crawl his way to his corner and he makes it. Rick is in to clean house on both guys. Powerslam on Doc gets a 2 count. Bulldog from the middle rope! Gordy catches Scott and knocks him to the floor, then Doc clotheslines Rick down. Doc places Rick on Gordy's shoulder and he comes down with a powerslam from the middle rope, Cover...1...2...shoulder up! Gordy and Doc with a double shoulder tackle to Rick. That gets a 2. Gordy in and he gets a back suplex for 2. Doc is in again and cuts off a come back from Rick. Dock slaps on a chinlock as the crowd tries to get Rick fired up. Rick elbows out but comes off the ropes into a knee. Doc huts a Blue Thunder power bomb and gets a 2 count. Front facelock for Doc. Whip to the corner and Doc gets Rick up for the Oklahoma Stampede. Rick gets out of it and clotheslines Doc down. Gordy tags in and Rick hits him with a clothesline as well. Rick tags in Scott who backdrops both guys, then slams both guys. Scott gets the double underhook power bomb. Scott gets the Frankensteiner and there's the bell! (30:00) ***3/4
WINNERS: Time limit draw. What a weird way to end a PPV. Having this match go last was not the best choice in hindsight. The match itself was fine, if a little slow in spots due to the restholds. The Steiners spent most of the match selling the offense of Gordy/Doc. Of course, Doc and Gordy would knock the Steiners out of the NWA tag title tournament in the second round and would then go on to win the WCW World tag titles on 7/5/92 in The Omni.
This was a very good show. Sting/Cactus and Steamboat/Rude delivered in spades, the tag title match was solid, as was the opener. The rest of the card was not horrible as the only disappointment was the six man tag. A very strong first half of 1992 for WCW with SuperBrawl II, Wrestle War and this show stacking up the great matches.
