WWF MONDAY NIGHT RAW - AUGUST 16, 1993

Mid-Hudson Civic Center - Poughkeepsie, NY
Attendance: 3,000

Commentary team: Vince McMahon, Randy Savage & Bobby Heenan

We are live this week, two weeks before SummerSlam but this feels like a go-home show because there won't be another episode of RAW until 9/13. The Macho Man promises us a surprise this week and the last time he promised one of those it ended up being a letdown, so I won't trust Savage ever again when he says that.

Match #1: The 1-2-3 Kid vs. Ted DiBiase.

The Kid gets IRS at SummerSlam while DiBiase gets Razor Ramon. Why didn't they just do a tag team match? Disappointing match between the two as DiBiase didn't really bring his working boots. The Kid tries hard with bumping and his speed but the match ends when IRS comes down to the ring and tosses Kid off the top rope for the DQ. ** Money Inc put the beatdown on the Kid after the match but the Steiners come out for the save.

Match #2: The Headshrinkers (w/ Afa) vs. Mike Khoury and Dave Moraldo.

The Headshinkers team with Bam Bam Bigelow against Tatanka and The Smoking Gunns at SummerSlam. Here, the 'Shrinkers get to beat down on some hapless, no-good, two-bit bums. I'm not sure which bum is which, but Samu superkicks the fuck out of one of them, looking like he legit knocked him unconscious as the guy just lays on the mat in the corner for the rest of the match. Headshinkers win when Fatu splashes the other bum from the top rope.

Gene Okerlund is here with the SummerSlam Report. Luger vs Yokozuna! Hart vs Lawler! Taker vs Gonzalez, Rest in Peace! Perfect vs Michaels! Steiners vs Bodies! Jannetty vs Borga! And many other great matches. I don't think Gene has run down the entire card in any of these segments.

Match #3: Marty Jannetty vs. Bastion Booger.

Jannetty gets Ludvig Borga at SummerSlam. Booger gets to show up for free catering. Bastion Booger is horrible in the ring, which is sad because Mike Shaw was a decent heel wrestler in Stampede. Jannetty makes this somewhat watchable by bumping for Booger. The finish comes when Jannetty tries a sunset flip and Booger sits on his face for the pin attempt, but Jannetty reverses to get the 3 count. Replay clearly shows that Jannetty wanted his face nowhere near Booger's crotch. ** (4:46)

Vince McMahon brings Money Inc back out for an in-ring interview. They have a cage match with the tag champs for the SummerSlam Spectacular special that is airing this coming Sunday on USA. These specials are clearly missing from the WWE Network and gems like that cage match need to be seen. Money Inc run down the Steiners, Razor and the Kid. This was pretty much it for Money Inc.

Match #4: Men On a Mission (w/ Oscar) vs. Iron Mike Sharpe and Barry Horowitz.

The jobber A-team gets the honors here against Mo and Mabel. Just your basic two minute squash with Mabel getting the pin on Canada's Greatest Athlete. Thank you, come again!

Then we get the third installment on "Who Is Lex Luger?" with Luger talking about drugs in sports and steroid use. Luger denies he is juicing and even goes so far to speak for the entire locker room and say that they're not juicing either. I don't know, if I were editing these shows, this would have come out because it's just a load of hypocrisy that can be easily debunked.

Match #5: Bam Bam Bigelow (w/ Luna Vachon) vs. Rich Myers (w/ mullet).

Bigelow squashes Meyers but leaves the mullet relatively intact, thankfully. Diving headbutt from the top is the finish.

And as promised, here is Savage with his surprise and it's the fucking Macho Midget....again! I TOLD YOU ALL NOT TO BELIEVE HIM! This time the midget comes out with some women but that Macho Man mask is still creepy with it's dead eyes.

We get a plug for the SummerSlam Spectacular airing 8/22 and that's it for RAW until 9/13.

THE FINAL WORD: The show was okay this week. We got the hard sell for SummerSlam and the focus was on Money Inc with their upcoming title shot with the Steiners and their individual matches at the PPV. Everything else was just squash-tastic.
